Final Reflection

I never thought I would get to this point, but I really enjoyed this technology class. For one thing, I definitely feel more comfortable with computers. I have always had a hard time just doing the basic stuff but now I feel like I am really good at it.

Some of my favorite things that I learned from this class are how to make a web page, how to do I-movie, how to find resources, bookmark, and highlight them, and studio code. I did get somewhat frustrated with studio code the first time I went through it, but then I got the hang of it, I really enjoyed it. Studio Code helped me track my progress and let me see the things I am good at in teaching and the things I may need some improvement on. I also liked learning about the web pages. I have been asked to make some for my work, and it has been fun to do it this time because I know what I am doing.

I will definitely use technology in my classroom. I have seen what great things it can do to make life just a little bit easier and I am so grateful for it. I have a feeling that by the time I start teaching I will want to implement many of the things I have learned in this class into my classroom. Thank goodness for what technology can help us become-better teachers.

Studio Code Reflection

First off, I have to say that watching myself over and over again,I seem to find flaws in lots of my teaching. I thought that I had really good teaching skills,but after coding this video,I realized that I need some work.I have learned that my management and instruction seem to follow a pattern. Whenever I am about to manage someone in the class, I always make sure that the rest of the class is doing something so that the student I am managing does not get offended. If I am going to manage the whole class,I always compliment before I remind them of rules, or chastise them for doing something wrong.

For my instruction, I recognized that sometimes I get so worked up about the students doing exactly as I say, that I forget to recognize that I might be asking them to do something that is to hard for them. I do instruct well, and I don't feel that I am lacking in my teaching or in my enthusiasm,but I get stressed out. I feel that because of that stress, my students do not always get the best instruction. However, I also saw in this video, that when I started getting into the groove of my teaching,I enjoyed being with my students and I had alot of fun with them.

I am glad we did this project so that I could see what changes I needed to make for this year. First, when I teach this lesson again, I will not use such difficult and so much equipment because it makes it a pain to clean up. Second,I will try and give more specific and simpler cues so that I don't get stressed if my students don't understand what I am trying to teach them. Finally, I will work on how I demonstrate to the students, finding a more effective way to show them the skills without them all being so spread out. I hope to improve from what I learned in order to become a better teacher.

I think that filming myself will help me learn what points of teaching I need to work on. It will eventually help my classes so that I can come up with new lessons and ideas

MOVIE CREATION

So I found the movie creation to be very frusturating. It did not turn out like I imagined but you know it happens. I think these videos will help reinforce my instruction in the classroom. Whenever I ask my students to practice outside of class they can reveiw their cues by watching my videos. I think activities that use equipment or specified moves will be especially enhanced. For instance, when I teach dance aerobics, my students will be able to learn the combinations better by watching an instructional video. I am glad we learned how to use these because I can post it on my teaching website and implent healthy living and correct learning that way.

I movie

In class this week we worked on learning how to use i-movie. It was a new experience seeing that we worked on mac's and I'm not awesome with those but it was cool to see what we will be using to edit our teaching videos. My only concern is that I will not be able to make my movie the way I want to because I will get to frustrated to care. Hopefully I will learn the program well enough that I will be able to make a movie successfully.

Internet Safety

To start off, I never thought that I was being unsafe on the internet. However, after learning about safety I realized that not every site I go on is a secure site. That was the most important thing I learned about the internet. I have always been one to put my personal information on any site that asks for it. I never stop to think that my information can be in jeopardy or that someone would want to abuse that information. Call it naivete but its the truth.
As a result of wanting to be more safe on the internet, I have changed my facebook settings, my e-mail settings, and my bank account settings. I am now much more aware of what is and isn't a safe place to be sharing personal information. I am glad we had this lesson so I can protect myself better over the internet.
I chose to teach my mother about internet safety since she sometimes lives in the caveman ages and has no idea how to use a computer, cell phone, or internet. I mean she just got her very first cell phone, and she is learning how to text. . SCARY! When I called her, I started with what to look for if you need to know if a website is secure or not. After explaining it to her, she told me she thought that the bank she was using did not have a secure site. We looked together and it does but it did scare her that she could have potentially been sharing private information with dishonest people. I also taught her about what to look for in emails and how to know if you should open them or not. We talked about how to add contact details so that you know when you have sent information to a person or if she wanted to recognize email addresses from people she knows. Finally, we talked about how to make her blog, and our family website secure so that only peolple (such as our immediate family) can look at the site. It was fun to teach my madre about internet safety and help her understand how to keep herself and our family safe.
The internet safety tips that I have learned about would apply to all my future students at different ages. I think it is important that they be educated about how to be safe on the internet especially since all of them will probably be assoiciated with face book, my space, have email accounts, and chat in chat rooms. I hope to be helpful in helping them learn internet safety.

Website Making Continued

Oh man Y'all!!! I never thought that building a website would be so tricky. Now that I have finished it, I honestly feel like it wasn't to bad except that I felt like there were inconsistencies with the way to import different items. It was hard for me to know how to get all the things like pictures, calenders, slide shows, and movies inserted on the site. I also found it hard to make the website make sense. I realized how hard it is to make a website short, concise and easy to use. I have a new found appreciation for people who make websites for the public to use - I will never complain about crappy websites again!

Website Making anyone?

Last class I attempted to make my first ever website!! It was actually really hard for me just to insert a map on my blog. I know things will become a little more challenging as I try to improve my website but I am determined to get it!! I am really excited about learning about this so that I can make class websites. I really think this will help me bring technology into the classroom. :) I hope I can get the steps down now so I can use them in the future.

Copyright Laws. . .do you like them?

Yesterday in class we learned about copyright laws. As we were talking about them my first impressions were to think that they were dumb rules that make using information from the internet difficul and harmful to the user or borrower if they are ignorant of copyright laws. However, as we continued discussing them, I realized that it is important to remember the people who put their stuff on the internet. Don't they want credit for their creative work? Even if it is just a dumb u-tube movie, someone still had to think it up and put it together; it's still theirs. As we think of bigger things, like movies and songs, those producers and artists are making those as their profession. . copyright laws protect their hard work and efforts from people unwilling to pay those who help entertain them. I know I am guilty of watching movies and taking music that is not mine to take but after having this lesson I think I will really try to make sure I am getting things of the internet responsibly so I can respect the creative minds that make the information and entertainment possible.

New Websites

I loved the websites we looked at in class today!! Especially Zotero.org. I am an English minor and that website will be so helpful for me for when I need to write papers. I think it will also be helpful when making lesson plans for PE so if there is a good article to use for references it can be saved on the site. I also really enjoyed finding out that youtube is good for more than watching hilarious video's. It actually has some helpful stuff on it. I hope I can learn to use these sites effectively.

In class last Thursday, I attempted to create my first blog. It was a frustrating experience since I usually do not understand technology very well. Our computers were not working and so in class instruction was difficult. Hopefully it gets easier as we go.
